FASHION & STYLE: Tips Every Big Guy Should Know In-order To Become more Stylish

When it comes to dressing well, men with muscle, width, and just plain size need to keep a few things in mind. There's no size limit to style, but taking the same liberties as a smaller person won't always have the same effect. And while fit is crucial for everyone, it takes on another dimension here-you don't want to wind up looking like the fat guy in a little coat.
Speaking from personal experience at 6'4" and 255 pounds, I've come to the conclusion that those of us of the larger variety-whether we're weightlifters or just carrying some extra weight-are well served by favoring looks that fit our bodies and don't shout for attention. That's not too difficult when you're heading to the gym or going grocery shopping, seeing as casual sportswear tends to have a good bit of give, but when you're suiting up and stepping out, it can get tough.
Luckily, a few key tips can make life a lot easier. Here's how to dress if you're a big guy.

GOODBYE TO SKINNY TIES

If you've read this far, you probably fit the mold. That means for whatever reason-a muscular neck and traps, extra pounds around the midsection-you're likely too wide for those skinny ties favored by small fries. If you have to wear a tie to your outing, go with a width of around three inches to keep the look in proportion. If it's an option, you can also go with a ghost tie by buttoning your shirt all the way to the top, sans neckwear, or just leave the top button open for a more casual feel.

CLOSE YOUR BLAZER

This seems like a minor issue, but buttoning your blazer or sport coat can be a very slimming choice if you're heavy, and less imposing if you've got a strong build. It'll look even better if your jacket is made-to-measure.

USE NEUTRAL TONES

This is simple: The bigger (or taller) you are, the more you'll stand out. That's not always a good thing. Sticking with classic looks is your best bet. If you want to spice things up with brighter colors, choose accent items rather than big pieces like jackets or trousers.

GOT LONG LEGS? MEDIUM RISE PANTS ARE THE WAY TO GO

A higher rise can accentuate a short torso and long legs, and we all know low-rise is a no-go on all fronts. Finding that happy medium can be a saving grace, balancing your proportions by lengthening your torso and shifting attention away from the fact that you're 70 percent legs.

naH TO SKINNY JEANS

Since we're on the topic, skinny jeans don't work if you're not skinny. And I don't just mean fat. If you've got muscular calves and thighs, just keep walking.

AVOID HORIZONTAL STRIPES

You've likely heard this before, but it bears repeating: Horizontal stripes add to the perception of width. Unless you're trying to look like the widest guy in the room, it's a good idea to stick with solids, or at least a different pattern.

ABOVE ALL, MAKE SURE IT FITS

Too big, and you'll look like your trying to hide. Plus, you'll just make yourself seem even bigger with all that extra fabric. Too small, and you'll look like Tommy Boy (or the Hulk, mid-transformation). But if your clothing fits and you pay attention to balancing your body's proportions, you'll look like you-at your best.
